Personal Consultation

When you come to the Stress Management and Biofeedback lab, you will meet with a lab assistant who will help you to determine which resources, techniques, and skills may be the most useful for you in dealing with your particulars stressors and circumstances.

On your first visit, you will be asked to fill out a short questionnaire regarding your stress situation which the lab assistant will use to help you better identify and deal with your stress response. The lab assistant may also conduct a short interview based on your answers to the questionnaire to better understand your needs and situations. For each subsequent visit to the lab, you will fill out a small follow-up questionnaire detailing how your stresses have changed and what skills or techniques you used to help you overcome those stresses during the previous week.

Questions may arise about the stress management skills and about your stress situation as you practice the skills you have learned during the following week. The lab assistants will aid you in discovering the answers to these questions and in helping you to personalize the stress management techniques to your particular life and situation.

The assistants who work in the Stress Management and Biofeedback Lab are a mix of undergraduate and graduate students and professional counselors who also work for the Career and Counseling Center where the Lab is located. Over the length of your visits to the lab, you may choose to work with the same lab assistant each time you come in, or switch to another assistant. The results from each visit are recorded so that any lab assistant you work with will have the basic information that is needed to continue your stress management training.
